The Month for Matriarchs
As a proud all-women team, we’re pleased to announce that Bolekwa Gatyeni has joined the Gonana Family. Some of you may recognise her as one of our hostesses when we had Antrim Villa, but she has decided to leave city life and become our Guesthouse Manager.
Secret Season Moments
Our Acacia and Aloe Houses will draw in the winter months with low week and weekend rates, crackling fireplaces and – for the first time ever – complimentary daily breakfast at our Guesthouse (just a 2-minute walk away) after 09:30 every morning. This not-so-self-catering Special Offer is valid from June – August.
And for our Guesthouse family over the winter months, we’ll be offering delicious hearty dinners which can be pre-booked. And for those who’d like a bottle of red wine and cheese, we’ll be serving organic cheese platters, with all cheeses sourced locally from Moose On The Run in Hopefield.

WOW eBikes’ expert guides bring classrooms to life sharing fascinating insights into the area’s rich history and ecology as you pedal along the stunning coastline (with the help of electric motors). Learn about the unique flora and fauna and hear stories of shipwrecks and brave sailors who navigated these treacherous waters.
The tour culminates at the historic Cape Columbine Lighthouse, where you’ll have the opportunity to explore the lighthouse museum and take in breathtaking views from the top of the tower.

Die Koelkamers Teater
From cabarets to Karen Zoid, Die Koelkamers Teater is the brainchild of Vredenburg local, Jan Malan. Located just a short walk from Gonana (especially the Studios and Coral Villa), Die Koelkamers has something for everyone, with weekly live shows and some big names often performing in our quiet fishing town of Paternoster.

If you’d asked me 900 days ago if I’d be writing this newsletter, I’d say probably “definitely not.” We opened Gonana Guesthouse 3 months before the pandemic lockdown – not ideal at all. Yet since then I have YOU to thank for getting us to this milestone.
From the locals who continue to support us, to the international travellers who venture off the beaten track and discover Paternoster. Gonana is here because of you. You’ve not only helped us keep our doors open, but you’ve also helped us continue to support local women and businesses, as almost every product and furnishings in our properties come from the West Coast area.
I’ve recently been on the road out guiding (hence this photo from Namibia), but it’s good to be back home along the West Coast as the Secret Season begins – my favourite time of year!
