ABOUT

UNIQUE IN EVERY WAY

Gonana offers the first sustainable guesthouse and self-catering houses in Paternoster, located in Bekbaai on the quieter side of the village. Meaning ‘embrace’ in isiZulu, Gonana invites you to embrace the beauty of the West Coast, with direct access to the bordering Columbine Nature Reserve and Cape Columbine Lighthouse.

With a home-away-from-home feeling and Afro-Scandi design, our guesthouse and houses in Paternoster are the perfect hideaways lovingly created by Jonas Sandström, a Swedish entrepreneur who has been running other guesthouses and hotels in Cape Town for many years.

Gonana’s beachfront guesthouse and houses are the culmination of all his experience and passion for creating considered spaces that are rich in detail, considerate to the environment and exquisite in taste.

Welcome to your next beautiful beach escape in South Africa.

OUR BELIEFS

AUTHENTICITY AND COMFORT

We believe that travelling is not only about discovering new places but also about opening your minds to new ideas, opportunities and traditions. For us, tourism is not about numbers, but rather about being mindful of the space we're in and being kind to the environment. So while travel is good for the mind, body and soul, it is also good for local communities and our West Coast surroundings.

During renovations of Gonana Guesthouse and the building of the self-catering houses, we worked with local artisans and builders in the Paternoster community. Whenever possible we use only natural, locally produced products and try to keep our operation plastic-free so that we can offer eco-friendly accommodation in South Africa.
