Welcome to Paternoster’s first-ever sustainable guesthouse, set directly on Bekbaai beach and designed to be almost entirely off the grid so that you can enjoy a West Coast holiday without any interruptions.

Each of our 8 rooms at Gonana Guesthouse promotes a sense of calm with décor inspired by the natural surroundings of sea, sky and sand giving a decidedly Scandi-African feel. The art pieces in the guesthouse are made locally from recycled materials and the chairs from handmade Malawian cane.

High ceilings, skylights and huge sash windows let in light and views of the ocean, the mountain or the pool. Seven of the eight rooms have their own private terrace or balcony, for quiet evenings with a glass of wine.

All rooms are en-suite and equipped with extra-long and wide mattresses for gentle comfort and wellbeing. A safe, heater, standing fan and Wi-Fi are standard. The bathrooms of this eco-friendly guesthouse use greywater. Rainwater is collected in tanks and used to top up the pool. Hot water is obtained from solar energy (with plenty of African sun) and water-saving showers are installed for guilt-free showering.

The heart of the guesthouse is upstairs in the enormous lounge overlooking the sea. Here, a cosy fireplace warms up the room (and your mood) on windy and rainy days. The outdoor verandah is ideal for sunset drinks and hot mornings when you need shade.

Paternoster is perfect any time of the year with each season offering unique contrasts and beauty.

With a pleasing mixture of old and new décor, the driftwood communal breakfast table belonged to the previous owner and is now the center of new friendships, reconnecting and relaxation. Here guests enjoy our Scandinavian hot and cold breakfast buffet featuring local organic produce. Access to wifi has been intentionally omitted in this area to promote tranquility.

We have 6 Double rooms, 1 Triple room and 1 Studio bedroom. Please note that our guesthouse is not self-catering, therefore we have no braai facility. Should you wish to braai we’d gladly welcome you to stay at our Houses instead.

To secure the enjoyment of all our guests, children under 12 years are only accommodated in our Studio and self-catering Houses. We look forward to hosting you!
